Low-Code

Software development platforms that combine visual building with some custom code for cases where pure no-code isn't flexible enough.

Also known as: low-code platform

Low-code platforms combine visual development with the ability to drop into custom code where needed. Compared to no-code, low-code offers more flexibility for complex business logic, custom integrations, and unique UX requirements — at the cost of needing some technical capability.

For customer portals, low-code platforms (OutSystems, Mendix, Microsoft Power Platform) are common at mid-market and enterprise companies that need more customization than no-code provides but don’t want full custom development. The boundary between no-code and low-code is blurring as no-code platforms add scripting hooks.
