General Partner (GP)

The managing partner of a fund or partnership — responsible for investment decisions, operations, and reporting to limited partners.

Also known as: GP, fund manager

A General Partner (GP) manages a fund (typically a private equity, venture, real estate, hedge, or credit fund) on behalf of its Limited Partners (LPs). The GP makes investment decisions, charges management fees (typically 1.5–2% of committed capital) and carried interest (typically 20% of profits above a hurdle), and is responsible for reporting and operations.

GPs use investor portals (Juniper Square, Allvue, Carta, Investran, Dynamo) to communicate with their LPs — capital account statements, performance reporting, capital calls, distributions, and tax documents flow through these portals. See Investor Portals.
